Our Story
In 1901, Grace Chapel was constructed as a testament to the power of family love and a community of spiritual faith, as many local volunteers gave the materials and their labor to build this special building for the children that attended Muddy Creek Elementary School. The chapel was for activities (shuffleboard lines still visible on the hardwood floor) and spiritual enrichment for students.
The school built in 1788, was one of Lancaster County’s oldest rural schoolhouses. On a sub-zero morning, on January 29, 1952, the 44 students got an unexpected vacation as fire destroyed the school. The Reamstown Fire Company (and two other companies) battled the flames in sub-freezing weather for two hours, limiting damage to the chapel to scorched walls and cracked windows. The school was left with only remnants of its walls standing.
Grace Chapel was famous for housing many of the social functions of the church, its only use for many years. It’s said that it was used as a place of celebration for wedding events, gatherings, and ceremonies. Today, Amazing Grace Chapel Venue continues the tradition that local folks began at the start of the 19th century, as it provides a beautiful building that serves many community needs.
Meet Your Next Event Venue
Amazing Grace Chapel Event Venue has recently undergone an extensive renovation, restoring its historic charm while enhancing its functionality. Originally a chapel, the building served as a recreational overflow room for a local church. Subtle remnants of its past, such as shuffleboard marks, can still be observed on the floors.
The most significant transformation is the newly developed Historic Hideaway located on the lower level. Once merely a crawl space utilized for storage, this area has been meticulously excavated and transformed into a fully developed space. The previously underground walls, which were buried beneath over six feet of earth, now frame this inviting venue, which features a bar, a full kitchen, a comfortable sitting area, private rooms, and a restroom. This renovation preserves the building's historical significance while providing modern amenities for events and gatherings.
